Repair and Restoration Services
Seat
restoration can involve everything from an individual vinyl or leather
repair to full restoration of the seat including repairs & color
restoration of original OEM cover and belt or cover replacement,
to seat logo reinstall, to repairs, restoration or replacement of
pan, foam, hardwrae, cushions, trim and related parts. Prices vary
according to number & type of repairs. Any seat with more than
6 small rips is usually ready to be replaced/recovered. There are
exceptions, especially if it is a super rare, all original, seat
and matching vinyl does not exist. In this case it is worth considering
repairing. Vinyl rips that are through a top panel with heat seams
of any type are repairable and can typically be a invisible repair
but cannot always be completely "hidden". Most repairs
on a flat area can be 99-100% hidden. We use the latest up to date
technical process & products to match original grain patterns.
We can exact match dye for any color vinyl and re-apply the logo
in the original size & color. We can fabricate most other logo
makes &/or a personalized name. Re-covers for stock "reproduction"
involve supplying close to original OEM matching vinyl grain patterns
and also the original small size welt cords in standard black as
well as hard to find vintage colors. We then apply the correct stock
or custom seat logo with professional grade/ fuel resistent vinyl
dye in a choice of original or stock colors we mix with our own
formulas. We can also provide color changes on any seat to match
any original or custom color paint scheme. We just need a color
sample and/or a small part from your bike shipped with the seat.

Welt
Cord Seam/Split Repair
This
repair looks simple, but requires removal of cover to repair
heat weld seam. (We dont machine stitch this repair ! ) Over
time the side panel tends to stretch about 1/4" and this
extra length has to be finessed to avoid a wrinkle when the
seam is put back together because one side is longer than
other and thus requires a heat repair. The owner of this seat
said 7other shops turned him away! Cool Retro Bikes

Original
OEM Cover Seat Restoration
Example
of what an old original seat that is still in fair condition can
look like once we work our 'magic'! The aged vinyl is cleaned, prepped,
softened and any holes/rips repaired, then dyed. The old cracked
'sun-burned' chrome silver welt cord piping is then repaired and
meticulously dyed silver, the logo reinstalled then the belt is
dyed , rusty belt reinforcers cleaned and reinstalled and any trim
strips / chrome button rivets reinstalled , producing an old seat
that looks like NEW!

Faux
Stitch Seam Repair
The
'Fake Stitch" on this 750F Seat creates a weak area and the
seam can eventually give way and open up and keep splitting unless
repaired. Seam Repairs are cosmetically very acceptable and structurally
sound and in most cases are fairly invisible to the untrained eye.

Pan Edge Cuts
Seat
pan cuts through vinyl! We don't always recommend trying to repair
a cover that was torn to this extreme, but it can be done, particularly
if the cover is a very rare irreplacable model with only a few rips
, then..if anyone can save it ..WE CAN! We use Pan Edge Guard that
EXCEEDS OEM standards ..it is a PVC Composite Moldiing which is
MUCH THICKER, STRONGER and GLUES to the Pan Edge...so you WON'T
have to worry about THIS happening to your New Seat Cover from Cool
Retro Bikes! This Molding is also included in ALL our SEAT COVER
KITS. Just ONE MORE attention to detail that SEPERATES us from our
competitors!

Chrome
Trim Strip Molding Replacement Service
OLD
MOLDING LOOKS LIKE NEW!
70's
Honda Vinyl Chrome Molding / Clear Coat Aged Yellow & Peeling.
This restoration procedure is particularly difficult, as the molding
is integrated part of the cover / heat seamed / welded to the vinyl
cover and is non-removable,
unlike older metal stainless/chrome strip.
Our
Replacement Chrome Trim Strip Molding is available seperately in
'KIT" form as an ADD ON OPTION
to our seat cover kits for $75.00 additional. We have 2 sizes that
match HONDA OEM and other makes and models of chrome and stainless
& aluminum trim strips
NOTE:
We do NOT sell our reproduction chrome
trim strip seperately. We do however
offer chrome trim strip REPLACEMENT SERVICE which requires sending
us your seat to have our repro chrome trim strip CUSTOM installed
by us for $150.00 fee.

Vinyl
& Leather Holes
The
owner of this seat was ready to trash his original vintage GoldWing
seat after his dog took a HUGE bite out of it...that is until
he found US! A recover would have left his seat with a non-original
appearance. Much to his surprise we FIXED
IT!

Touch
Up & Color Matching
This
example shows off our expertise in exact color matching for touching
up or total surface dyeing of leather or vinyl. The brown saddle
leather tool pouch from a '76 Goldwing LTD
is a RARE item and was showing its age, with the surface color
finish worn off in spots clear thru to the suede, which can lead
to deterioration, cracking & breaking of leather. Dye was
MATCHED exactly and carefully applied to areas needed , while
preserving the vintage integrity of originality, making this treatment
not only a preservation process but also a cosmetic one.

Foam
/ Spring Barrier
Here we see the typical problem of cracked
, broken, missing pieces foam /spring barrier, which causes the
foam to crumble further as the exposed springs wear against the
foam. We replace this barrier with a correct color matching barrier
that wont crack eliminating this common problem with spring seats
once and for all!

Seat
Pan Restoration & New Faux Foam
The
Seat Pan has been stripped, de-rusted, & rust treatment applied,
3 coats of Black Laquer Primer, and 3 coats of Black Enamel. Better
than new as most werent even primed & had only one coat of
paint!!! New Heavy Duty Vinyl edge guard ( upgrade from orig)
is also installed. On this particular pan we installed our exclusive
'New Faux Foam' treatment in Pre-'70's Honda Coral Red.
This serves
two purposes. Cosmetiaclly it makes the foam look new , particularly
important detail on flip up seats. It also serves a practical
purpose of keeping old crumbling foam from falling thru the berather
holes and into your air box, onto side covers, frame etc. Note
our EXCLUSIVE hand milled heavy duty non rusting aluminum belt
reinforcers available ONLY at

Foam
Deterioration
Here's
a typical HIDDEN problem we call 'SEAT TERMITES"!. The seat
cover may look good but the foam can be eaten away and in time
the pan rusts on both sides and the exposed metal eats thru the
foam , vinyl &/or the Chrome Strip hardware. We always address
this problem when restoring a seat. Just be prepared if you send
me a seat you may have SEAT TERMITES & not even know it! !

Chrome
Trim Seat Button Rivets
Original OEM Honda Chrome Button Rivets
are no longer available. Our replacement rivets are Hand Polished
Nickle Chrome and Clear Laquer Coated for Rust Resistance and
give a very similar 'bent prong' original appearence from the
underside of seat pan ( see insert) that could even fool the discerning
eye of a competition judge. These are included in certain SEAT
COVER KITS (ie: CL/CT models ) and are used in our SEAT RESTORATION
SERVICES! PRICE=$75.00/Set

Logo Installation
The
Logo is applied with same Quality Professional Vinyl Dye as the
cover. I have several sizes and styles of lettering for different
years of Hondas as well as different colors including Typical
Silver Gray , White, Red, Blue & Black. I can also do other
Makes & models. This example is a GL1000 "GoldWing"
seat. The customer requested GOLD LOGO to match Tank Letters.

We
can create almost any design you want with a variety of Font styles
& sizes and colors & metallics (chrome & gold) with

Custom
Color Match Dye Service
This
'87 Hurricane Seat was originally Black. The customer wanted a
matching seat cover but new vinyl in this shade of Honda Monza
Red-Orange was not available, and the vinyl was in good condition,
so rather than recover in a non matching red vinyl, It was dyed
with Custom Color Matched Professional Vinyl Dye to Match the
Tank paint color! Where Else Can

BUCKLES / Polishing, Rechroming , Hardware
and Install : These two photos
show the front and back side replacement rivet we use on CB450K0
Bomber seat belts and other similar models. The Rivet and washer
are hand polished, clear coated to resist rust, and once installed,
the threaded bolt is then cut off at the nut level and edges smoothed
with a grinder so it wont harm the cover. This step was not always
taken at the factory. Good original buckles are high polished.
Other wise they are sent out to be rechromed. We sometimes can
offer a trade in on your old buckles for newly plated buckles.
If your buckles are missing we can sometimes
provide replacements for additional fee .
Just another example of our ATTENTION
to DETAILS!

FOAM
RESTORATION / RESURFACING
FOAM
DISINEGRATED
|
OFF
WITH THE OLD!
|
|
|
We can REPAIR foam as well, as shown by
this example. The top layer of foam is nearly destroyed, while
the base layer is still intact and still supple. So the top layer,
which in most cases is glued on, is carefully 'peeled off' and
replaced with NEW FOAM (see photos below) in a process we call
"FOAM RESURFACING". This process has the advantage
of retaining the seat foam's original factory shape and adding
to it with new foam, rendering the seat surface smooth while adding
significantly to the comfort level of the finished seat.
|
ON
WITH THE NEW!
|
ADDITIONAL
FOAM LAYER
|
|
|
These photos show the seat entirely resurfaced
with medium density foam creating a smooth surface and is now
ready or the cover to be installed. In some cases we add an additional
layer of light weight 1/4" foam to the under side of seat
cover top panel , giving additional comfort and overall smoother
look.

Is
your pleated seat FLAT & LIFELESS ?
This is a common problem with any 'rolled
& pleated' seat cover. As it ages , the under liner deteriorates,
the foam strips become displaced, and then the foam crumbles into
a big MESS! We have a unique process to restore flattened pleats
that will make your SEAT LOOK NEW, and will add a degree
of comfort the seat had when new! This includes installing new
foam strips and a new heavy duty liner that exceeds OEM standards.
This happen to be an SL70 seat we restored for Greig Pierson.

INNER
FOAM REPLACEMENT
|
INNER
FOAM REPLACEMENT
|
|
|
These photo examples show the step by step
process of replacing the old foam blocks and strips used on many
'60's Honda seats, such as CB72-77 Super Hawk, CL72-77 Scrambler,
CB450K0 Black Bomber and other models. The blocks typically come
loose and lay down in a 'dominoes' fashion, creating a mishapen
lumpy seat. By replacing the inner core only, the original OEM
molded foam outer shell is retained and thus maintains the original
shape. It also prevents the same problem from reoccurring even
if the old blocks are reglued back in postion. The green high
density marine foam provides better comfort and support while
maintaining the original shape as close as possible even with
repeated use for years to come.
|
|
INNER
FOAM REPLACEMENT
|
|
|
Once the inner foam core is shaped and
tested for fit, it is ready to be glued to the outer shell , then
the assembled foam is glued to the pan. The old OEM cracked rubber
edge molding is carefully peeled away from the outer shell foam
and our exclusive new pan edge guard molding is then installed.
The final step is to carefully glue the foam edge to the new edge
molding.
